Cristiano Ronaldo expressed his “best wishes to Manchester United” following the club’s Tuesday contract termination.
In a statement of his own, the 37-year-old expressed his admiration for the Premier League and its followers.
However, Cristiano Ronaldo argued that now was the ideal time “to seek a new challenge.”
He said, in part:
I love Manchester United, and I love the fans; that will never ever change.
“However, it feels like the right time for me to seek a new challenge.
“I wish the team every success for the remainder of the season and for the future.
The Portugal captain’s contract was terminated by United as a result of his contentious Piers Morgan interview.
Cristiano Ronaldo claimed in the two-part interview that he had “no respect” for manager Erik ten Hag and felt “betrayed” by the team.
